Well, my black eyed susans were planted about 2 weeks ago(they are in full sun all day) and looked good long enough to have the photographers that were doing the garden contest snap a pic and say that everything looked great. LOL Oh how they would shiver and cringe in disbelief now if they stopped by for another look. They started to brown at the leaves, then the flowers would wilt. They would be watered in the evenings (every evening) and in the morning they seemed to purk up. Then the last few days they would not purk up in the morning even with a good watering in the evening. They seemed to breath their last breath and not bounce back. I was ready to rip them out tonight and just take it with a grain of salt when I decided to try ONE last thing to see if it would help. Don't laugh now...I am a beginner gardener and I guess with practicing new things (whether they turn out or not) is a learning experience. LOL I dug them back up from the ground. They still held the "pot shape" they were taken out from. I added some new "moist soil that has a bit of fertilizer in it", filled the dug hole with water right to the top and plunked that baby back down into the hole and put more soil down around it to cover it back up. NOW....in the morning I am going to see it purked back up and waving it's green leaves and beautiful flowers at me or I'll be throwing them to the "woods heavens" and saying....Maybe next time.LOL O.k. Maybe i'll give them longer then just the morning.
So here are the beauts when I planted them....ahhhhh the wonderful site of orange and brown.

Then you get the 2 weeks later picture that just about ripped my heart out....the UG!What the heck happened to those beauts.Thats with watering every night. Too much water?

Ouch! That's heartbreaking. These are pretty tought plants, so don't give them up for totally dead yet. I would leave them in the ground until next year, just to see if they come back. You might get lucky!
I won't be here next year to see if they survived or not. We're posted in a few months to a new place. I just thought it was strange that they would do that when they were so beautiful a couple of weeks ago and I've been keeping them watered every night. I did have a neighbor lady come over about a month ago (before planting them) and say that I had too many earwigs and ants and pour half a box of her borax throughout my garden to kill them with out asking me first. Could that still be in the soil and kill my things?

hmmm...I wonder....I have never poured Borax in my soil. It does seem strange that the plant would die like that when it looked so healthy.
try planting seeds in place instead...many wildflowers hate being transplanted...I have had the best luck throwing seeds in the ground.
Girl Gone Gardening....My neighbor threw seeds down in the spring (wild flower seeds) and her black eyed susans that were in that mix are gorgeous. She gets shade too though, where I don't. I always thought they were sun lovers.
Thanks for your comment.

Mine did the same thing last year and I just left them, they all came back bigger and better this year.
Thanks crazygramma, I hope that the next people that move into this PMQ will be able to enjoy them if they do indeed come back next year. I'll have to ask my friend Wanda to take a pic for me if they do. LOL
