Tolepainted candles

Did you ever paint on a candle? Just go to Walmart and buy the cheapie ones...then come home and decorate them with some paint. That's just what I did for these ones...They are Christmas gifts for my inlaws. One of my sister in laws has a son (only child) and so the stocking candle was perfect to put his name on. Thanks for peekin'. I want to let you know that after you paint them with acrylics and seal them with a spray finish (i used matte Americana spray finish) then you shouldn't burn them..they are decorative only. Someone also gave me the option of taking a drill bit and drilling the tops of the candles so that you can place a tealight candle...I think I'll try that next time and that way you can light the tealight and get the same "candle glow effect" as if you lit it any way. HUGS

Painted candles using acrylic paint and a stylus to engrave the pattern on the candle as graphite paper doesn't really work on the waxy area as it would on any other surface)

On the tops of the candles I painted a part from the pattern (for instance the snowman candle had snowflakes painted all around it, I did one snowflake on the top near the wick, you can see it better on the first picture. )

I would have never thought of doing that with an ordinary candle. How beautiful these look!

Thanks Sue. I got the idea from a friend online. They are going to be great Teachers gifts too when I do up a few more. LOL

That's a great tip re: drilling out the candle for a tea light. I didn't realize that you could use regular acrylic paint on candles. Really cute, you could let your imagination go wild and really customize them as gifts.

Thanks Pat...yeah, I want to try that, the drilling out the top and put a tealight. I think that would be so neat.

Thanks Ranae, happy holidays.
